SIMMONS:
BUILT TO BE THE BEST
Quality
Construction: The Key To Comfort
Comfort:
No matter how you define it,
you know it when you feel it. And we've spent over a century
discovering how to deliver it. Every element that goes into our sleep
systems-from the strongest carbon steel in our foundations to the
most luxurious cashmere inside the upholstery-is designed to bring
you a comfortable night's rest.
Individuality: To some people, comfort means a plush feeling mattress. Others want a firm mattress. Simmons makes mattresses to suit any preference, but it's the quality construction that your body will appreciate night after night.
Choice: Premium innerspring mattresses are one of two types: Pocketed Coil construction or "wired tied" construction. With Beautyrest® and BackCare®, Simmons offers the best of both types. A variety of beds are available from each line, giving you the custom comfort you're looking for.
Beautyrest®
The
Pocketed Coil Spring:
Beautyrest construction begins with the coiler that makes the
ultra-efficient and unique coils. In these superior coil units, the
heavy-gauge steel wire is compressed into a barrel-shaped design so
that the turns never touch, eliminating noise and vibration.
Pocketing machines Power-Pack the 8 3/4-inch coils into 6
3/4-inch individual sleeves of a non-woven, non-allergenic fabric
called Duon, developed specifically for Simmons. Each sleeve is
ultrasonically sealed, a process where the fibers are melted together
to form solid plastic seams that are remarkably secure and
tear-resistant. The coils are then fusion bonded to produce a strong,
stable construction. This technology is patented and cannot be
duplicated. The number of coils in each unit is varied to create
customized comfort and support, and coils made with heavier gauge
wire give the mattress a firmer seating edge and total edge-to-edge
comfort.
Covers and Quilting: Color, quality and innovative designs set Beautyrest® covers apart. Simmons' high-speed, computerized quilters stitch damask, chintz or knit covers to layers of polyurethane foam or natural fibers like blended wool, silk or cashmere. The newest technology allows Simmons to offer a broader variety of patterns and a range of tightness to enhance firmness or make a bed more plush. Layers of upholstery can also make the mattress more plush without affecting the quality of back support.
Assembly and Closing: All the pieces of the mattress come together in final assembly. All the parts are stacked together and double-checked for fit, construction and quality. Teams then lock steel border rods into the coil units to provide added strength, shape retention and edge support. The covers and side panels are fitted and steel clamps hold all of the parts together to eliminate shifting. Finally, the closer sews the covers and side panels with a secure tape edge.
BackCare®

Detailed
attention is given to the production of the BackCare® mattress.
The cover selection and quilting processes are identical to those of
Beautyrest®, as is the assembly and closing process. What differs
is the coil construction and the unique addition of ContourFit
anatomic foam.
Tru-Comfort® Coil Unit: Simmons is the only major U.S. manufacturer to use the Tru-Comfort coil unit. This exclusive 5-zone system provides 100% working wire so that every inch of coil flexes to help follow the natural contours of the body. The center convolutions of each coil are interconnected to provide comfortable support to each sleeper.
CountourFit®
Anatomic Foam:
This
exclusive 5-zone anatomic foam was developed by the healthcare
industry to reduce surface pressure and provide proper spinal
alignment. Now, for the first time, it's available to customers in
its truest form in the BackCare® mattress. ContourFit
creates a unique and distinctive sleep surface that allows the
consumer to maintain proper spinal alignment for maximum rest and
rejuvenation. It is sculpted to contour to the natural shape of the
body with five zones of comfort and support. Two support zones
support the hollow of the back and the upper thighs. Three comfort
zones reduce pressure on the shoulders, hips and lower legs. The
distinctive quilting of our covers identifies the size and location
of each zone.
Foundations
The foundation is just as
important as the mattress. At Simmons, we manufacture our exclusive
foundations with the same care and quality that goes into our
mattresses.
PowerFlex: The Beautyrest® foundation is called the PowerFlex Torsion Bar unit. The unique bars with four flex points (instead of the industry's standard two or three) are attached to a steel grid and double-stapled for extra durability. Extra elements placed in the center third of the mattress provide additional support where the body weight is greatest. With 33 to 50% more flexing response than the competition's most standard element configuration, the PowerFlex torsion bar works to prolong the life of the Beautyrest mattress.
PowerFirm: The BackCare mattress is paired with the PowerFirm foundation for a complete, 5-zone anatomically correct sleep system. PowerFirm complements the support and comfort of ContourFit foam. Formed steel enhances the support zones, while torsion bars flex underneath the comfort zones. All steel elements are locked to a grid top, which is affixed to a heavy border rod, helping maintain shape and edge-to-edge support over the life of the mattress.
Wood Frames: Canadian spruce gives our foundations strength, stability and slight flexing ability without the noise of metal. Up to seven slats strengthen the foundation, and heavier slats are used in areas that support the most weight. Every corner of the foundation is glued and the frame is double nailed for stability and durability. The borders are covered in the same fabric as the mattress, but the tops are fitted with a filler cloth material to prevent the mattress from skidding or slipping off the foundation.
Quality,
Comfort and Performance Guaranteed.

The Simmons Quality Assurance Program assures customers, dealers and floor sales associates that every Simmons product meets and exceeds their expectations for construction quality, comfort and performance. Simmons is continually setting new standards to separate ourselves from the competition: adding L-beams in Beautyrest's foundation, upgrading foam to minimize body impressions, and implementing more detailed inspections in our manufacturing plants.
Most manufacturers use the traditional method of quality inspection, conducting two announced visits per year. Simmons inspections are unannounced and more thorough. And Simmons quality inspections are done with the consumer in mind, checking specifications as well as things like tailoring, fit and finish, cleanliness and the overall look of the bed. Our goal is to make sure that every plant, every day, every product is built to be the best.
